The whole conversation on this week's show with Dave Batstone about the global slave trade really got me thinking. I'm usually Mr. Joy Boy, because it is such a blessing to be alive... why not enjoy? That said, it is also true, that to expand this wealth of being, some practices and habits need to evolve.
So, in the spirit of Peter Finch in the movie, "Network," - here's what I'm "MAD AS HELL" about.
1. The media news reporting. Where did our investigative jounalists go? Network news has turned into the Anna Nicole Smith show. It's all about profit, not information and public service.
2. Speaking of public service, why don't our elected officials serve us instead of using the power we have given them for cronyism and their own personal gain?
3. And, why can't our elected officials have private lives? Frankly, I'd rather have someone in office who is competent first and foremost, and what they do with their personal life... who are we to judge? We are all human last I checked. At this point, our most qualified and competengt leaders would rather not serve, given media scrutiny into their personal lives.
4. Poltical campaigns should have spending limits. Period. Not only would that mrror the economic reality of their post, they would think about the waste of mud slinging.
5. Go after the back dating of stock options with vigor. These executives who bilk the shareholders are criminals!
6. Hidden charges and fees. Corporations - charge what you think is fair. Just tell us in big print in advance. This goes for re-stocking fees on returns and rebate programs.
7. People who only give when they have something specific to gain.
8. I feel that religion does us a disservice by not encouraging uncondtional love in practice more often. we've been conditioned that unconditional love is only for our children and parents - our bloodlines. Everybody else has to earn it - even our spouse - what a crock! And how hypocritical of our religious leaders not to acknowledge that God, that which is infiinite and Creator of us all, may have many ways to commune with It.
9. And, war has got to go. Haven't we matured and evolved in consciousness to find other ways to resolve our differences without killing each other!?
10. I'm tired of our society putting money on a higher pedestal than God. Asset-backwards. This is what terror is gravitating to. Because we have poured so much fear... fear of scarcity, fear of not being good enough so that we need money to be our scorecard... into money that war and disconnection with our one humanity will only expand.
Our whole story around money, God and uncondtional love is due for revision. What do you think?
What aspects of life do you want to change?... NOW!

Help

Well, well, well, Absolutely, Change is imperative AND overdue.
I read your blog and thought, did we have this chat in our dreams last night?! I stumble into synchronous alignments a lot lately, and I love it!
I 've been presenting the idea of having “We, The People” create voting initiatives enforcing, by the vote of the people, the changes our legislatures should be doing of their own volition. Since they don't want to do the job we put them in office for, and we still have a government structure that permits us to DO IT FOR THEM, albeit, it is time consuming, but, hey, how long before they would get the clarity – they're in office to serve us, not the corporations? Freak them out! Shake'em up a bit!
Asking them to reform their behaviors is like asking the fox to leave the hen house of his own volition; it is NOT going to happen. Also, the agendas politicians have come to serve is one of greasing the wheels of the money-givers to whom they feel more “beholding to” than to the voters who have put them into office. Greed is a powerful force, and has nothing to do with true wealth from my point of view.
I've given this a lot of thought, we would only have to do this with a few well thought-out laws that would make them accountable with heavy consequences. Soon, only the sincere would be attracted to serve. And, then it WOULD BE to serve, and not to make a fat pay check at the expense of our country's wealth.
People keep nodding, “yeah, yeah, good idea…those ideas will never work, the government won't let that happen, blah, blah, blah.” Not only does such an attitude reflect how little people really understand about how our system really CAN and was intended to work, but also, this is the very sense of worthlessness the “powers that be” have come to bring the American people into being - complacent because they are busy, tired, distracted, and addicted to entertainment over freedom and the joys of responsibility.
For example, If we enforced, by a vote of the people, a requirement that no legislative representative could vote on a bill that they had not personally read, unless they provided a document verifying their personal understanding of the impacts this new law would make, and upon whom.
How inane is it to vote and make laws from bills you have not read, or more importantly, do not understand what it is saying? Yet, when I work at the Capital, I see this happening all the time. I was appalled and burdened as I began to understand more than I wanted to know about our politicians and the depravity of their obligations in office.
And, if we required, only those who had completed “this homework” on a given bill could be considered present for the formation of a required quorum needed to even bring a bill to the floor for a vote. Further, we could really put some teeth into this change if we insisted in the same law change, that they had to take an oath validating this process of reading the bill was carried out by themselves including some heavy penalties for perjury, thus, making circumventing this process VERY UNATTRACTIVE.
What impact does common sense imply that such a reforming law would likely have upon the number of bills presented each year? They would surely start pondering the insanity of 1000 pg bills to digest and get them into a format that was to-the-point and on-point rather quickly, don't you think? Concision would become an art form. Whew do we need that!
We, could vote in that lobbying is an illegal activity, and we could cancel all pension funds for serving in office, and set a strict specific dollar limit that would make campaigns about debates and meeting the people and not about gathering huge funds for the next election cycle. WOW, that would change the face of our government knocking a significant wind out of the profit motive that the people can barely touch as things are now.
We keep playing their game, by their rules, obeying all the supposed things we can't do to stop them. It is time we take back the power we DO HAVE, and do a house cleaning. It is revision time and we need to re-set the rudder and sails of our ship so it is navigating as we desire, not as the corporations desire.
Well, I could go on and on since I volunteer a great deal of my time at the state Capitol creating movements of people thwarting their agendas. Yes, it has been life intensive, but we have prevailed and prevented them from destroying our freedom of choice for alternative medicines, and other issues I simply could not “take the chance,” that left unchecked, would damage my freedoms more than I could bear.
Ah, when the freedoms are vaporizing out of the boiling pot, and the goose is about to 'get cooked', IT IS time to jump out and take actions that will save ourselves. I say, revisions, Yes!
Now, to your insights regarding the money confusion we live in and around. I am so sick and tired of being sold. I don't want to be sold one more thing! I would like truth in advertising. Let us be done with the “small print” deceptions that belie our purchases.
I love your phrase, “asset-backwards.” I concur Fear is the ruler of the economic roost.
I've this wonderful gift to share with Hu+manity, and I can't relate to the distortions that current marketing wisdom keeps trying to get me to “buy into” so that I can sell this TRUTH.
What??? Betray the essential nature of the living Love that is the essence of this gift so as to “make it more palatable and attractive for purchase????” I don't think so. That seems terribly “asset-backwards” to me.
I must admit, this stymies me a bit. Actually, it breaks my heart. My Spirit will not let me withhold, distort, glitz-it-up, and make glamour out of LOVE. If this is the only way for the consumer/client/patient (How about person of interest, of need to fulfill?) to be interested, maybe humanity it not ready for the gift… This doesn't sit well with me either though.
Our need for the authentic is intense. Authenticity is the only type of balm that will heal and enliven and return flowing En+joyment back into our daily fares for it is purely and harmonically resonant with Love - God. When style over substance rules how we spend our money, we are ripe for deception and superficial fobbles transfixing our attentions away from that which is meaningful and fulfills our souls/Spirit natures.
I understand the wealth of that which is priceless. Those Visa commercials speaks this to our hearts, and yet, I have to laugh that Visa, a card with interest rates that bankrupt many of its clients focuses their ads on that which the card can NEVER purchase.
Up to this point I've aligned with your list. I was preparing two newsletters, “Simple!” for our complicated minds to return to the basic principles that govern our lives from the “God-side,” and the other, “The Spiritual Rag”, which was going to address the type of issues you've laid bare here in your posts. Looks like, the repairs I was waiting for on my zPro page that would have allowed me to send them is going to be on an indefinite hold. So, I guess I was well primed when I read your post!
May I add an 11th - 14th?
11. One of my pet peeves is the way we glamorize co-dependent behaviors as if they were some kind of healthy and loving thing to strive for in our relationships. One of these errors of glorification, are in movies, we have the father say to his 4year old son, “I'm leaving, YOU take good care of mommy for me while I'm gone.” He is 4 years old; he needs to be taken care of by mommy and feel that the protection and safety is intact till dad get home, and that mom is very capable to take care of matters. What a psychological burden to dump on a child. It is really a misplaced “warm and fuzzy” that is likely to harm the child with worry of adult concerns he cannot possibly have savvy to deal with.
The way we revel in confusion as if we're enlightened - Think of how there's prolific promulgation of the wonderfulness of tolerance for and of others. It sounds great. But, let's think about this a minute…
If I were to say to you, in the most loving manner I could, with the utmost of sincerity, “Stu, I am going to tolerate you.”
How does that feel? Have I not passively indicated that there's something about you I basically resent or dislike, or find repugnant or some other not so pleasant quality I'll endure about you? It implies a separation exists between us and in that gap, love languors, dying on a vine, pricking those who touch its thorniness.
Is not the TRUE nature we are looking for here, acceptance? “Stu, I accept you.” How does that feel? You can sense that I am more in union with you, any gap/separation between us doesn't serve to alienate us. I can continue to say, “I can choose to agree to disagree with you, yet, though it all, I accept you, your POV.” This bonds, validates your worthiness, and doesn't imply resentment. Now, doesn't that seem more to the “God-side?”
13. One more thing, is I'm burnt out on “experts.” This is something that tends to make people think, I can trust this person to know more than I do. This lulls a lot of people into giving themselves away, their power to think and do and be all they can be…they just hand it over to the “experts.” Sure, there are people who are highly trained or very knowledgeable, or insightful, or EnLightening, but “experts”? Umm… Did any of the GREAT teachers of Hu+manity call themselves, “experts”? I don't think any of them stooped to such self-pedestal-ling of themselves. Be Good. Do Good. That speaks volumes and is hard to top.
And, I shall rest with this
14. oops, I forgot… it is a momentary lapse. Such things happen when I write till the wee hours of the morning. I'll move this comment to my blog, and finish it there. I don't want to hog up too much or your space.
Thank you.
All to Love, SHARON
